Children : Infants and children up to age 15 are available. Two unrelated children or sibling groups may be available for adoption. Most are ethnic Vietnamese though some are of other ethnic groups such as Tay, Nung, Tai, Khmer and Chinese.

Requirements : Couples and single women must be at least 20 years older than the child they wish to adopt. Families with other children in the home may adopt.
There are no requirements for length of marriage. Divorced persons may apply.

Adoption Process : Families should apply to the program with an approved homestudy and have submitted to the Citizenship and Immigration Services their I 600 A Application. Once we receive an approved home study, with the agency’s help, the family prepares a dossier specific to Vietnam. The dossier is then taken by the official representative in Vietnam to be submitted to the province. Referral times vary depending on the age and gender of the child requested, but it is expected that families will typically receive a referral within one to three months of having a completed dossier. Referrals for boys should be faster than referrals for girls. Referrals for babies may be faster than referrals for a toddler or for an older child. At referral, the family is presented with a photograph and any known medical and social information. Please note that there may be little to no medical and social history. There may only be a current medical and a history of when and how the child came into the care of the orphanage. The legal process usually takes one and a half to three months after submission for a particular case to complete. At least one parent must travel to the province where the child resides to complete the adoption process and then travel to Hanoi for the child’s visa appointment at the U. S. Embassy. The adoption is finalized abroad. If only one parent travels, you may be required to readopt the child in your state.

Travel : One trip is required. The trip should take approximately 10-21 days, depending on the province where the child is adopted..

Timeframe : The process typically takes 9-12 months from start to finish.
