Children Available: the children available in Bulgaria are usually 24 months and up. Children are generally healthy and are of Roma (gypsy), turkish, and caucasian descent. Special needs children are also available.
Requirements: Married couples and single women (over 25) may apply. Preference given to families with one or no children. It is preferable that no more than 45 years be between the parents and child. Single women and parents with more than 2 children are asked to adopt a child 3 and older.
Adoption Process: Families must complete a dossier to submit to the Bulgarian authorities. A referral of a child will be made by the Ministry of Justice in Bulgaria. Once parents have accepted a referral, they may make the first trip to visit the child. The time to referal for children 5 and up and sibling groups is expected to be very short. The time to referral for children 12 mos – 4 years is expected to be longer. The exact wait times are not able to be determined at this time.
Travel: Parents may make the first trip to Bulgaria (5 to 7 days) to visit the child shortly after receiving the referral. After the adoption is completed families make a second trip of approximately 4-7 days.
