Belize Adoption Program

We are currently only accepting applications for families wanting to adopt children age 5 and up,  or sibling groups with at least one sibling being above the age  of 7.

Request more information on our adoption program including detailed fee information.

Children Available: Children available in Belize are  5+ years and up. Children are of Belizean, Guatemalan, Mexican, Haitian, Afro-Amerindian, and/or Caribbean ancestry. Special needs children and sibling groups are also available.  Please ask us about older children already waiting for adoption.

Requirements: Married couples only may apply at this time. At least one of the prospective adoptive parents must be a minimum of 25  years old and no fewer than 12 years older than the child.  Few other restrictions.

Adoption Process: Families must complete a dossier to submit to the Belizean authorities. Once the dossier has been approved, the family will wait for a referral. Belizean law requires that prospective adoptive parents complete a one year probationary period of custody of the child before a final adoption decree can be issued. However through the Supreme Court of Belize, an interim  adoption decree can be issued. This will allow prospective parents bring the child home during the “probationary” period.  After  1 year, adoptive parents can pursue the adoption process in accordance with state laws.

Travel: Parents must travel to Belize for two trips.

Timeframe: The process typically takes 24 - 36  months from start to finish. Estimate includes 12 month probationary period.
