Children
:
The children available in
Bulgaria are usually 18 months
and up. Children are generally
healthy and are of Roma (gypsy),
turkish, and caucasian descent.
Special needs children are
also available.
Requirements
:
Married couples and single
women (over 25) may apply.
Preference given to families
with one or no children. It
is preferable that no more
than 45 years be between the
parents and child. Single
women and parents with more
than 2 children are asked
to adopt a child 3 and older.
Adoption
Process : Families
must complete a dossier to
submit to the Bulgarian authorities.
A referral of a child will
be made by the Ministry of
Justice in Bulgaria. Once
parents have accepted a referral,
they may make the first trip
to visit the child.
Travel
: Parents may make
the first trip to Bulgaria
(5 to 7 days) to visit the
child shortly after receiving
the referral. After the adoption
is completed, families may
arrange for their child be
escorted home from Bulgaria,
or make a second trip of approximately
3-5 days.
Timeframe
: The program is
currently taking 18-24 months
from start to finish due to
the backlog from the recent
law changes.
